In a move highly reminiscent of the Lightning Network torch, the EOS community has created a new "torch" token that is being passed around the network in the hopes of bringing awareness to the project. The token has already been in some important hands in the EOS community, but it differs from the Lightning Network torch in some key ways.
Just a couple of months ago the original Lightning torch was created and began making its way around twitter, even finding its way into the hands of twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Now EOS is hoping to catch that same fever and has introduced the EOS Torch, which is a single token users are passing around the EOS network.
Some important differences exist between the Lightning torch and EOS torch however. As mentioned, the EOS torch is a single token with no inherent value. Unlike the Lightning torch, no value gets added to it with each pass, and so no user actually has incentive to take it. Basically, trust is not a factor. Also, unlike the LN torch, the EOS torch can be easily tracked across the EOS network, whereas with Lightning the tracking is done by users over twitter.
